Campbell Unit #2 SCR & Ductwork Shop Insulation Project
Location: Rogers City, MI
Owner: Consumers Energy
Contractor: Moran Ironworks
Date Completed: July 2010
Scope of work:
APi supplied and installed approximately 50,000 SF of insulation & lagging on a Babcock & Wilcox selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and the associated ductwork. API completed this work in Moran Ironworks' Rogers City, MI fabrication yard for barge shipment down Lake Michigan to the job site.
Additional Information:
This unique project took APi to Moran Ironworks' fabrication facility in Rogers City, located on Lake Huron along Lower Michigan's northern shoreline. Moran's boilermakers fabricated the SCR components and duct pieces, and then hoisted them into their lay-down yard where APi Construction's insulators and sheet metal workers installed a conventional insulation system at grade. Once complete, Moran shipped the modularized pieces through Lake Huron and then south across Lake Michigan to the Campbell Station site in West Olive, MI.
Under a separate contract with Babcock & Wilcox Construction Company (BWCC), APi completed the insulation tie-in work at the Campbell Station job site after BWCC hoisted each component into place.
APi also utilized our 3-dimensional Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to design our insulation system for the Campbell Station Shop Insulation project. APi imported Moran Ironworks' structural steel drawings into our BIM software and then designed every subcomponent of our insulation system. The weights and bill of material information generated by our BIM software was used by BWCC to calculate total weight prior to crane lifting.
