Monroe Units #3-4 FGD Ductwork Shop Insulation Project

Location: Rogers City, MI

Owner: Detroit Edison

Contractor: Moran Ironworks

Date Completed: August 2008

Scope of Work

APi supplied and installed approximately 77,000 SF of insulation and lagging at grade for the ductwork associated with Units #3-4 Babcock & Wilcox wet scrubber. The insulation system included a 2" thick single layer of fiberglass insulation against the plate with a 2" thick single layer API Type I Prefabricated Insulation Panel installed outside the stiffeners.

APi supplied and installed approximately 50,000 SF of insulation & lagging on a Babcock & Wilcox selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and the associated ductwork. API completed this work in Moran Ironworks' Rogers City, MI fabrication yard for barge shipment down Lake Michigan to the job site.

Additional Information:

This unique project took APi to Moran Ironworks' fabrication facility in Rogers City, located on Lake Huron along Lower Michigan's northern shoreline. Moran's boilermakers fabricated the duct pieces, and then hoisted them into their lay-down yard where APi Construction's insulators and sheet metal workers installed the insulation system at grade. Once complete, Moran loaded the insulated duct pieces onto barges and shipped them south down Lake Huron to DTE Energy's Monroe Power Plant.

Under a separate contract with URS-Washington Division at the Monroe site, APi supplied and installed the remaining 30,000 SF of field joint, expansion joint, and damper insulation and lagging. APi also installed 18,000 SF of insulation and lagging on four Howden induced draft fans with the GOWA Acoustical System.
