The STEPS Program places our employees and those who work beside us in a safer environment through:

• Provide training on the Company’s Health & Safety Program to all disciplines within the Corporation.
• This is accomplished through New Employee Orientation and the weekly Toolbox Talks where employees are trained and updated on the safety policies and procedures of the Company and the project site.

• Develop an accountability program that generates results
• Employees are held accountable for adhering to the policies and procedures as directed during training. 
• The accountability program is a three step process that can eventually lead to termination.  Supervisors document each step of the accountability program and ensure it is working effectively.
• Develop and implement “Best Practices” for Safety / Loss prevention
• Project Pre-Plans focused on Safety and Loss Prevention are completed to identify potential hazards and job requirements.  Immediate responses and solutions to the potential hazards are developed and implemented. 
• Visibility of safety on project sites by assigning Site Safety Coordinators, Project Managers performing safety audits, and site visits by the Safety Manager.
• Enforcement of safety policies and procedures through the accountability program.
• Injury / Incident Management to return the injured worker to full health and work duty as quickly as possible by providing comprehensive medical treatment, light duty work if needed, and support services.

• Company leadership is involved with the safety program management, resource provision, and the administration of the following loss categories:
• Lost Time Incidents
• Auto claims
• General Liability Claims
• Maintaining employee work history to meet the needs of the company and customers by hiring a productive and professional work force

• Development of a Stretching Program and implementation at each project site
• A daily stretching session each morning is performed by all employees to decrease the muscle sprain and strain injuries that are prevalent in our industry.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures to provide safety consistency across all project sites
• Standardized procedures and requirements for safety methods, tools, inspection requirements, and training programs.

• Increased training of Superintendents and key company personnel on the OSHA Standards, work comp laws, and company policies
• Explore opportunities for each superintendent to attend OSHA 30 hour training.

 

The STEPS program is the framework by which we administrate our safety program.  It outlines the values that define the safety program and allows API Construction to grow and adapt as we encounter new challenges.  These “STEPS” are necessary to reducing all causes of loss and protecting our employees and those who work along side of us.
